Study tips for beginning university?

Hi!

Just wondering about how to get off to a good start at uni.
Is the jump from A-Level noticeable? If so how bad is it :frown:

Should I be consolidating my notes and revising weekly?

Any other tips? I'm trying to be as organised as possible - student planner and wall planner, anything else needed?

Thanks

Get to know the library - they may offer a tour as part of Freshers' week but that's not enough

To prepare yourself with getting familiar with the library:
- use the library catalogue to find a book related to your subject
- find the book to familiarise yourself with the layout of books
- become familiar with how to print and photocopy - watch others
- go on the university library website to see what services they offer
- where are group study rooms? where do you issue/return items?
- if you reserve a book where do you pick it up from?
- how/where do you top up your printing/photocopying credits?

also make sure you ask your tutors if you need any help
try not to leave things to the last minute

In terms of the jump from A level, I would say that it is noticeable as tutors say a university degree is like a full time job so you're looking to study for around 40 hours a week. Also, get a head start on the referencing style you'll be using as it's easy marks if you can do it correctly

I would recommend you consolidate your notes and start revising a couple of months before exams. It will be harder than A Levels so maybe review your study skills in advance of that
