They accepted Dentisrty (at Brum I think) as it's easier to go from dent to med apparently that the other way, as it's the 'normal' route for Max Fac.

I know one of the med offers was Oxford on the full course (was a bod at my College), but am not sure where the other was...

No - you're only allowed a total of 4 courses for medicine or vetinary or dentistry or a mix...

As yes - most unis will accept supporting information. Plenty of med applicants I know wrote separate PS for their other two courses and sent them directly to the uni. Make sure your UCAS number is on the additional PS though.....
Hmm, my friend applied for 4 medicine courses, and then applied for a dentistry one for one of her backups. She got a straight out rejection from the dentistry one, but she was allowed to do it.

Hmm.. well she shouldn't have been able to! Not according to the UCAS rules and regs....

So either, so was lucky, and her form checked by a monkey at the UCAS end or she tella da lies!

If you are applying to Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Science, you are restricted to up to four choices in any of these subjects. You can, however make a further two choices for different subjects including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science/medicine if not already selected.

you can... I know someone last year that applied to two med and two dentistry - wanted to go into Max. Fac. PS concentrated on both areas of med and dentistry - they got 2 offers for med and 1 for dentistry...

But unles you know what you want to do enough to write a lucid PS, I would avoid it - just makes you look indescisive and uncommitted....

that is very very rare indeed and that is the absolute WORST load of CRAP i've ever heard in my life

picking TWO dentistry and TWO medicine courses is not a good idea whatsoever .. how the hell is your personal statement going to sound??!?!!?!

I chose Dentistry, Dentistry, Dentistry, Dentistry as my 4, i didn't bother going for 2 others because i knew i wanted to read dentistry

my friend however had med, med, med , med BIOCHEM and BIOCHEM

dentistry and medicine are two different disciplines and you cannot integrate your personal statement to match both disciplines - believe me

LOL it doesn't matter what he put in his PS, as bitewing said they will assume he is not dedicated to the subject!

i asked the admissions tutor at the university of manchester about this and he said it's not a wise option - lol

i then continued to ask numerous other people and they all said the same

My bad.

This is new for this year then - as I've just flicked thru the 2003 handbook and you could defo only make 4 choices fromt he three disciplines... In fact, from other v-bul boards I use, I know that careers advisors are still telling students this...

3 offers.... Speaks for itself really!

And if you re-read my post you'll see I said I thought this would only work in this very specialised instance, and that you would be mad to apply to both based on a singular PS.....

Ah, I see
Probably not the best idea anyway, as the rejection showed.

Given Max Fac requires a degree in dentistry and a degree in medicine, not really....

And they were actively encourages to apply for both from what I remember - can rememebr Mark saying all he was told (but Brum) was not to apply to both courses at one university.....

well the marjority of students here in the UK apply via a UCAS personal statement and hence you cannot integrate why you want to do both ( dent and med )

maybe he is a mature student?

how old are you may i ask? you don't seem to .... you don't seem to understand how this UCAS thing works that well

Given that I have offers thru' UCAS for the 2004 cycle, I think I understand it fine, thank you

And I'm also a UK student before you throw that one up

ANd you CAN intergrate both into one PS. It's not difficult if you're after a career in Max Fac (how many times do I have to type that???)

Are you an incarnation of the original DazYa/_ELiTeCaRR_/cookie etc?

Hi I'm newish to this forum.

Have been reading for a while, but a little scared of posting! lol!

Anyway - the head boy at my 6th form has offers for both medicine and dentistry. He was told by out head not to apply to both, but did anyway. He got a real grilling at his GKT interview (medicine), but I guess he must have been good as he has an offer from there. He also has an offer for Manchester (dentistry). He applied to both dentistry and medicien at Queen Marys and got very fast unsucessfuls.

How do you get the funny faces on here?
