WJEC creative writing CA

I'm doing my creative writing controlled assessments for English language soon, the first of which is a short story. I only have an hour to complete this, so it can't be too long. For controlled assessments I usually write the draft at home so I know exactly what to write. I was wondering if anyone who got an A* in the creative writing sections of their GCSE on any exam board has any good tips or ideas as I really want to get an A* on this part.
