Finally another Land Economy applicant  I am applying for '07 entry to Trinity Hall, preperation wise i have researched the provided areas of specialisation for my subject interviewer.

There isnt much available however with regards to preparatory material regarding the course and its content; since only Cambridge and one other university in the country offer the course. Make sure to digest the provided university prospectus to ensure you have a good understanding of the course and its multidisciplinary nature.

I'm applying to Catz. I haven't done very much in the way of preparation....just read through my PS and went over the books that I mentioned. Which college have you applied to?

Actually, Aberdeen don't offer it anymore. I was speaking with one of staff at the Land Economy department Open Day and I was told that Cambridge is now the only university in the world to offer such an undergraduate course.

ahh, 2 other ppl!! i love u guys already! im applying to robinson, yes it is the one that looks like a council estate lol. preparation is zero for me. my admissions dude is specialist in law, and we all know there is a lot of reading for that, so i have no hope. i was hoping he wuld be a geographer, as i would rock at that

and yeh its true, camb is the only place that offers Land Economy. if it was offered anywhere else i wuld have applied for it as its such an awesome course, me loves it so much.

have u guys heard anything about the interview? when? where? how? i've heard nothing! they sent me a questionnaire to fill out, but nothing in detail about the interview.

do u know anyone else applying to camb for Land economy. i know its not a hugely competitive course, but still, the rough numbers...the competition lol

I haven't heard about an interview yet :frown: Hopefully they will let me know soon.

I wish it was offered at other universities too - I can't think of a course which is as cool as LE!

Actually, when you study the statistics, Land Economy is (unfortunately) one of the more competitive course at Cambridge. It seems to me that, last year, there were about five applicants for every one place - above the university average. I guess few people apply, but they offer so few places anyway it makes little difference.

What are you applying for at other universities? All of my friends think Land Economy = farming  lol.

Good luck!

the statistics thing i guess is true. but i dont think its 1 in 5, its better than that, but i may very well be wrong. im not getting in anyway so it doesnt matter. im not the typical oxbridge candidate. kinda had to ask REALLY nicely so the school would let me do it lol

am doing K400 Town and COuntry Planning at other unis which are Reading, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield. already have offers from Reading, Manch and Sheff. Need to interview me at Liverpool, and i havent heard from newcastle at all. the courses there are really kool and similar to Land Eco, but not the same!!! and most are 4 years, whereas LE is 3, and is accredited byt the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) which is what i want to go into after the whole uni thing.

land economy is not farming...if it was farming, it wuld be FUN farming and the best farming there EVER was. so tell them that! just laugh at their courses lol.

what else are u applying for? wot unis? fave unis? any tips on preparing for the interview at Camb. i know the usual research interviewer, know all about the topic, be positive, hav a conversation rather than a Q&A session and all that stuff. but is there anything else, the stuff that the best candidates do. i NEED to get into camb....1. huge pressure from parents 2. the course is so great 3. only really want to go to 1 other place apart from camb lol.

thank u! bonne chance

my friend is applying for land economy..he hasnt done much in way of preparation though..other than asking if his parents would donate a library to cambridge...shockingly, the answer was no.
i can see how it would be perceived as a subject about farming..but anyone who's poured over the cambridge prospectus generally knows its something along the lines of geography, law and Economics, but i dont know much beyond that, saw 'geography' and turned the page
good luck all!
(PPE rocks so much more)

p.s. i had a few friends who got in for land economy last year..their AEA's seemed to impress the tutors, so you could prepare to take one of those i suppose, not sure if its too late to be entered.

maybe this guy's rich frd could donate to the library? i heard she has like 10 houses, which all generate income. i'm sure she could help, but all girls are crap and they probably wont. maybe if she doesnt u should stop talking to her....

geography is so much better than philosophy.....rather tahn asking what is the meaning of life (which NO ONE cares about), maybe we should ask how to stop global warming so that in a couple of centuries we dont all DIE and there wont be any meaning to life as we'll all be DEAD.

yeh i agree. AEA is kool. it sucks that frds dont tell u bout AEA and how fantastic it is anf u only find out months down the line when its no use...hmmm..... can i meet these frds? numbers? msn? i wish to speak to them, NOW. show me the path to them, come on then 'lljaneth' (wot kind of a name is that?! 'h' at the end of janet, thats absurd!)

erm...freak alert much?
clearly your study of geography and globalisation has not allowed you to accept or look into other cultures-yes my name is spelt with a H, i'm sorry if that creeps you out but that is how it's spelt in Ecuador, which is where i was born.
let me guess, private school kid?

I was considering applying for LE until I decided on Law. Someone I know at my school is applying for it and I think he actually intends to become a farmer one day. I don't think there is much preparation that you can do but if your interviewer is a lawyer maybe concentrate slightly on the legal side and prepare for more law-related questions. There still isn't much you can actally revise though.
Hmm you should all hear about interviews soon, I think Robinson is being slow this year... Us Oxford candidates will have to wait slightly longer though.. Shucks..

Yeah, because that's all we do in philosophy. We just turn up to the exam at the end of every year and tell the examiners what the meaning of life is.

SCRAPE OUT of the land economy thread. has ur philosophy thread got a bit dull? havent worked out the meaning of life yet? are we all relative? any other absolutes apart from death? is there god? personally i dont think there is, but wotever. i guess philosophy is fun wen ur drunk, but not wen ur sober...that is all philosophy is for....drunken nights. meh. safe safe

lljanetH can scrape out too. go back to ur crap OXFORD place. cambridge is better, MUCH better. psh, i need sleep
I recently received the date of my Cambridge Land Economy interview at Trinity Hall, but I guess since it is quite early in comparison to other dates (28th November) other candidates wont get confirmation of their interview dates till later on in November.

Unfortunately for myself I checked out the statistics for Land Economy applicants at Trinity Hall after I had applied there. Last year 6 applied, 0 got in, and the year before 5 applied and 1 got in. Not the most promising statistics

 2 weeks today! Best of luck to you. The statistics for Catz aren't overly appealing, either.

BTW - are you doing any AEA exams? I'm not, so I hope it won't disadvantage me too much.

I'm applying for Law elsewhere - at LSE, Kings, Bristol, Warwick and Birmingham.

Don't have any tips for the interview...I had a practice one a week ago and completely messed it up.... :frown:
Yay, baby land economists!
i recently heard that the land economy course is a much lighter load than the economics course- how unfair is that....

I am taking AEAs in Business Studies and English.

Land Economy does profess to be extremely academic and intellectually intensive, i guess that it is very much an opionated process as to which of the courses have a "heavier" load.
