Studying medicine in the UK, practicing in the US

Hey guys,

I’m a medical student at Liverpool university. i just wanted to ask if anyone knows about the process to get a residency place in the US; I know about the USMLE steps but wanted to know more info on how much work experience and other attributes I would need in the US before I could get a residency successfully?

Also, my aunt in the US has applied to sponsor me in a family-based category for a green card (which is close to being approved in the next year or so) but the entire process is working out very expensive; however, would this streamline the process to obtain a residency process in the US compared to the traditional visa route?

Any experiences would be helpful

Thanks

Ir308 can give better advice since he has taken step 1, 2 ck and cs.
I believe having a green card would definitely increase your chance since you will be a U.S. Img rather a non-US one but I'm not too sure.

(Current medic planning for the Usmle as well  )
Having a green card definitely streamlines the process since you don't need to apply for a visa. It also improves your chances in getting a residency spot in the US.
