Acceptable subject combinations for Geography?

Is what I will be putting to you lovely ppl an acceptable combination of subjects for admissions to Durham Uni? I need a definite answer so if you're already at Durham and could ask someone for me then you'd be a lifesaver! Or if you know for sure anyway, please let me know! OK, so here's the list of subjects:

AS

English Literature
Maths
Geography
Biology
French
Environmental Science
Geology (unsure whether to do)
Chemistry (unsure whether to do)

A2

Geography
Biology
French
Environmental Science

AEA

Geography

Will the Uni accept Environmental Science as a 4th A2 or even as a separate AS subject alongside Biology and Geography that I have already done? Because one Uni that I looked at specified for either a grade in Env. Sc or Geography. But on the examboard specification for Environmental Science, it says that although there are some aspects drawn from Geography and Biology, amongst other subjects such as Physics and Chemistry, in there, it's a different approach. But I am a Geography student and more interested in what Durham have to say on the matter. And I am considering Environmental Science as a complimentary subject to Geography as I am really into Physical Geography to include sustainability and conservation etc.

The sooner you lovely ppl get back to me the better as I have a short turn around time to make important decisions and get started! Rep and eternal gratitude is up for grabs on thisxXx

PS I don't care how hard I work; I am determined to succeed and give myself the best possible chance and options as possible.

the best option would be maths, geography and biology. me thinks. add geology if you want to specialise in tectonics and all that.

I know people at Durham who do geography who had environmental science. However, I had no sciences at A-level and it made absolutely 0 difference to my application.
Reply 3
So it counts as an acceptable other subject in its own right then?
Reply 4
Yes? They're unlikely to ask for a specific grade in geography too.

JEEZ!! Is this seriously how many AS Levels people are doing these days?!?! What happened to the days that AS-Levels were simply an extension of your GCSEs, but you did less AS's than GCSEs so generally they were easier?!!

I remember MY AS-Levels, I did Geog, Biol, Econ, and Maths - was such an easy year (except maths lol)!!

Anyway....yeah, choose whatever. Geography is easy on what you do to be honest, so choose things you enjoy. Don't spend all your time doing work, get out there and get some life experience. Get a part time job. Do some extra-curricular stuff. Etc etc. Enjoy your time in College / Sixth Form

Because everyone is now getting 11tyfifty As at A-level (because they're a doss) they need something to distinguish them from the moronic sheep that make up the majority of the UCAS system.

Yep, same. I've got a Conditional from St Mary's and:
AS:
Geog
Theatre Studies
Eng Lit
Media Studs

This year I dropped the media.

I'm also taking the AEA in geog.

Guess it made little different for me

How can you be sure it made 0 difference? Do you actually have any idea why you were given a place?

Er, I was applying for BA geography, which has very few requirements with regards to having science a levels, in addition Durham Geography doesn't even specify that ou have to have an A-level in geography to get in.

Glad you understand where I'm coming from.

I was applying for BSc Geography because I'm more into physical Geography. Does that change or make a difference then do you think?

Most BSc Geographers probably have at least one science at A-Level, but it wont make a huge difference to your application or how hard you find the course.

OK thank-you Arkbar. Will add you to my to-rep list.

BSc Geography applicants tend to be offered higher requirements (i.e. AAB) whereas BA Geography applicants tend to be offered lower ones (i.e. ABB)

You should just apply for BA, as the first year course is exactly the same for both BA and BSc and you can swap anytime during your first year - it's easy and I know a billion people who have done it!

Er, Kev, that's not true...

BA geography has the same standard offer and has more applicants for the same number of places...

i got an offer for Bsc this year and i did
Geography, Art and Human Biology for Alevel

You don't even need geography to get into durham, because my friend didn't take it. extra curricular stuff is just as important

Whilst I didn't know that more people applied for BA than BSc, I didn't say that the standard offer was different (though thinking back to when I applied I'm 99% sure that BSc was higher)....but even so...in my experience the Physical Geographers in Trevs had higher offers than the Human Geographers (though if I'm right that when I applied there was a difference then this would be the reason why!)

In my experience pretty much everyone had an AAB offer, irrespective of BA/BScness.
In other geography news, a friend changed to Nat Sci (geography and geology) for the express purpose of not doing the 'history of geography' module.
