Scientific notation help!

Hi!

I have a (probably stupid) question about scientific notation that I can't seem to find the answer for. So, does the number used have to be expressed to more than 1 significant figure/does it have to be written as a decimal?

e.g. is 5 x 10^-2 written correctly in scientific notation? Or should it be written as 5.0 x 10^-2?

Thanks in advance!

If it asks to give it to (2sf), the second. It's not a stupid question though; it took me a long time to see the reasoning.
