Where are you planning on living? I used to live out in California. The thing I tell all my friends is it's very different living there than it is visiting. There's a lot of stuff "behind the scenes" that people don't really think about - my local coffee shop was closed when someone in my neighbourhood who I knew committed a double-homicide-suicide.

At the end of the day it's your life, but why do you feel the UK cannot suit your needs? There's a lot to ask yourself before committing to such a major change in lifestyle

Any questions feel free to ask

Pahahahahaha, you naive dimwit! Many people want to move to America, hence their current issue with illegal immigration from south of the border.

I get it, you've seen all those amazing TV shows and movies like CSI, Die Hard etc., and thought 'wow I'd love to live their life'. Well, you need to face up to the hard truth matey: it is not going to happen.

Firstly, ask yourself a question about why dear the dear little US of A would want to employ YOU as a cop? I can assure you that they have PLENTY of people over there who they could easily recruit. Who are they? You ask... Well, they're called 'Americans' - the born or naturalized citizens of the United States. Americans DO NOT want filthy immigrants 'takin der jaawwwbs' (kinda like here, really).

Sorry to crush your cute American Dream, but to be able to move to America to live and work, temporarily or permanently, you have to get this howwible nastly thing called a VISA. Visas are given out on a need-not-want basis. So, if, for instance, they have a labour shortage which in the medium term cannot be filled by Americans, then foreigners (or 'Aliens') with the required skills are eligible for an H-1 visa. Unfortunately, the demand of wannabe cops does not exceed supply (economics innit bruv).

I know, I know, I'm an a-hole who crushed your fantasy of living the stereotypically adventurous lifestyle of an American cop. HOWEVER, all hope is not lost. There are ways you can hop over the pond, get residency/citizenship, and 'live the dream', so to speak.

1. You say you're studying for a biology degree. Realistically, a BSc in Biology BY ITSELF is a rare breed of not so 'useful' STEM degrees. However, there is a shortage of STEM workers in the US at the moment. So, top the BSc up with a masters or PhD in a high demand field, and you may be eligible for an H-1. However, you will have to work in the field you specialise in (i.e. not a cop), and you have to wait a period before permanent residency.

2. Marriage. I dunno, meet a nice American girl (or boy, as LGBT+ are now eligible), marry them, and you're on the way to victory. What's more? You can do ANY job you want, and that includes training as a police officer, if you wish. However, some states require US citizenship, so you'll have to something else for three years until you can naturalize. HOWEVER, you better make damn right sure that the immigration officer does not think you married your partner specifically to gain entry to the United States, otherwise the games up.

I should warn you, however, that in reality it probably won't be anything like you see on the TV. America really isn't a very nice place these days. It's socially and economically divided, has an obscene rate of violent/ gun crime, and politically it may not be to your taste. Essentially it's just like England: same **** on a different shovel minus the rain. Perhaps Canada might be a better option? Southern Ontario has very hot summers. Plus Canada has not guns, the people are friendly, and politically there's more variety.
