Architecture travel

Is architecture a job where you can travel around the world?

In general, not really. Each country has a different set of regulations that you need to be familiar with to work as an architect - so that makes it very difficult to work effectively across multiple countries unless you specialise in a really niche area of architecture that mostly relies on international standards rather than country-specific standards, like data centres or something. You probably won't be travelling much as a routine part of the job anyway apart from the occasional site visit

actually i dont agree with first post
as counries have the same general baseline for architecture
but the 1 thin that changes is the law
if u studied architecture in uk
u ll learn the laws to do with architects in uk
so u can actually travel to different countries
however if thats wht u want to do better specify in somethin international to do with architecture
its like the same with doctor
if u understand wht i mean
hope u get me😜😜☺️

ya i'm not saying it's impossible to move countries. just harder compared to other industries like say consulting or software because not only do you have to get a visa but you have to deal with the national professional licensing body, like depending on where you move to you might have to sit local exams to practice as an architect because RIBA qualifications aren't internationally recognised

in terms of working on projects around the world, if you get into a big international practice like Fosters or a consultancy like Arup (which are highly competitive) then you might get to work on projects outside of the UK, but as an architect you prob won't be travelling to the site very often compared to if you're say a project manager or site engineer

Yes. I lived in Asia for five years and a lot of my friends were architects from the UK. They worked for a mixture of both UK-based and local practices. Many had lived and worked in other parts of the world too, such as the Middle East and the USA. The ARB has mutual recognition agreements with NCARB in the USA, and the AACA and NZRAB in Australia and New Zealand meaning that your UK qualifications would be recognised if you want to work in those countries.
Hi there,

This is dependent job to job and workplace to workplace. There are opportunities at lots of companies to work overseas on different projects and architecture is constantly developing everywhere. There are lots of different guidelines which may need to be educated on from country to country but this may be done on the job too.
