Hey! I've firmed Bath to do the Msci Psychology with placement is anyone else doing the same course? Bit worried that it's really long 😁
I've also chosen Eastwood as my preferred accommodation, let me know if you have too! 😃

Yeah me too, Psychology with the placement year!! I haven't chosen accommodation yet because I can't access the link to the allocation procedure but it will be between The quads, Marlborough Court and Solsbury Court, Woodland court, (which I think will be gone at this stage) Osborne and Polden Court. Essentially anywhere with an en-suite that is still available tomorrow, I'm so worried that there won't be any spaces left though I'm just praying I'm not stuck with shared accommodation. What university did you have as your insurance? Also, what A levels are you doing?

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on noise in halls? I have some amazing speakers that would be cool to bring, but they are huge and if anyone turned them up too much they are SO loud... I wouldn't wanna disturb anyone so would keep it down but they are so good for pres, don't even need to go out 😂 Like I don't wanna get fined or whatever

Not really. I imagine the rule of thumb to be that the threshold is when people next door get pissed off!

What subject have you applied for, and which accommodation?

Pharmacy, Norwood and Westwood are my top

I'd think Norwood would be more tolerant of noise pollution, with the SU and the clubs being just below. Clubs nights, I hear, are Wednesdays and Saturdays, so feel free to blast the house down on those days :P

But then that's also dependent on whether others like your music taste.. what do you listen to?

Hi there!

I'ma a first year Computer Science student at Bath.

Just to clarify, the official curfew for noise in halls is 11:30pm. This is extended to being 24 hours during exam season so that people may study - you'll be notified when this takes effect.

Of course, the reality is (as you'll find at every uni) that people do create noise at and beyond this time. I'm certainly not going to lie to you and tell you you won't hear drunk students on some nights!

If it bugs you, you can ring accommodation or security which will come to your flat to aim and minimise the noise. From personal experience, I've never heard of anyone being fined - but this isn't a liberty to annoy the whole flat - you've got to live with these people for at least year, remember!

Just use your common sense and consider others at all times and you'll have no problems.

Hope this helps!

And, I hope, be excluded socially - this is next level ridiculousness.
It's university, not kindergarten.. Surely no one does this?

It's rare, but people have complained to security before, yes. Sometimes if the noise is really loud at an antisocial time in the morning, security will come to the flat to try and keep the noise levels down without anyone having called them out. It's all about considering others. It may sound immature, but this is only in extreme cases, and is done in the interests of people with important deadlines, or who simply want a night's sleep!

Obviously this does not happen in all cases, I'm just informing people of the possibilities.

Hi guys! I'm a first year psychology student at the university. A few of us first years who are also working as ambassadors for the university/outreach programmes have been doing vlogs throughout the year. We are doing our last ones at the end of this month/early June so it's the perfect time to ask any questions for current first years if you have any.

I'm going to link all the recent ones below and from there you should be able to access all the other vlogs for each person!

Here's mine - https://youtu.be/mPkNsKz_H1k (Psychology)

Jonathan - https://youtu.be/35ltjpP-xLM (Economics)

Esther - https://youtu.be/3D3TUIST-Sc (Sociology and Social Policy)

Jhon - https://youtu.be/l7ZD6cg8Lp4 (Politics and International Relations)
