University of Edinburgh or University of Warwick for management???

Poll

Warwick vs Edinburgh for management

What should I put as insurance?

University of Warwick for Management (requirement AAA) vs. University of Edinburgh for Business Management (requirement ABB)

I’m firming LSE, which has a requirement of AAA, which is why I’m more inclined towards Edinburgh. Also I have heard that Coventry is a quite dead city. Will Warwick accept a student with A*AB??

I’m looking for the prestige of the university, social life, teaching and how helpful will the university be to get me a job afterwards (though I plan to do masters afterwards but I would prefer to do a job for some time before masters because some prestigious universities require job experience for MBA)

Don't choose a university as your insurance just because you think it will be easier to get into. At the end of the day, it's better to wait / go through clearing to get to a university you do want, than get in debt at a university you don't really enjoy. You could always try emailing the Admissions department at Warwick and asking them about whether they would allow you in if you potentially got those results.

I can't speak for Coventry because I've never been, but I am Scottish. The nightlife in Edinburgh is really good, and you could always take the train through to Glasgow. Some of the places in Edinburgh are pretty pricey, but you should be able to find decent places to go for relatively cheap on student nights. There's a club in Glasgow that does 89p Vodka / Gin singles & 99p Spiced rum singles. In terms of attractions, there is a lot to do in Scotland. Here are some Tourism guides that you may find useful;

I think most students in Edinburgh tend to go to The Hive, although I've personally never been - www.clubhive.co.uk/

Consider searching and seeing if you can see what sort of Freshers events each university has had in the past. Explore their student union website, and see how active the societies are and what events they have on. It might be worth messaging some societies at each university, they will be able to properly tell you about what it's like being a student there, what the nightlife is like, and what the course is like.

If you can contact the departments directly, then don't be afraid to message them with questions. If you can't, then send an email with your questions to the Admissions department who'll forward it on to the appropriate person.

Have you looked at The Complete University Guides for each University?;
Edinburgh - https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/edinburgh/
Warwick - https://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/warwick/

Look to see if there is anything unique to either university that you're interested in. Compare the modules on offer at each university, and check what sort of places you could get placements. I found watching videos of the universities I was considering really helped me. Watch general videos about the university, including ones specifically about your course. Also, watch videos of other courses in your department. This can really help you see what the staff and facilities are like. Look to see if any students have up any videos about their experiences at either university as well.
As your insurance, it'd make sense to pick Edinburgh grade-wise I think.

I'm a 4th year Japanese student here and although I can't speak for Management, I can tell you that the location and the university are phenomenal. :smile:

I don't think you'll lose out if you go to either Warwick or Edinburgh prestige-wise, but regarding location and grades, Edinburgh is the most natural choice in my opinion.

I wouldn't rely on league tables & rankings too much, they are all pretty much arbitrary. It is definitely a well established and well respected university though. I can't say for sure why it doesn't receive much attention though, it could just be down to it being a Scottish university.
"Edinburgh University is one of the top ranked in the world and it's school of Informatics amongst the best in the UK and Europe.Edinburgh University is ranked the 29th in the world.Based on the quality and breadth of its research, the 2014 REF placed Edinburgh fourth in the UK and first in Scotland." - http://www.ed.ac.uk/informatics/postgraduate/why-study-here/our-reputation

In the TIE World University Rankings, Edinburgh is ranked 27th - https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2017/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/-1/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats

It is also a Russell Group university - http://russellgroup.ac.uk/about/our-universities/university-of-edinburgh/.

Unfortunately I am not really sure. If it is a high in demand course, then it is likely it may be a struggle to get in. However, if you meet the entry requirements and have a strong personal statement, then you still stand a chance of getting in. If you have any Admissions questions then it would be best to contact their Admissions department whom will be able to advise you best.
Very insightful thread! Gathered and noted many useful information. Thanks!
