I am about to complete my PhD in Law and am considering applying for the MSc in Politics Research at Oxford. I have two questions:

    1) Do you think it makes any sense to go for a second Master after the PhD? I'm not sure if it would not make more sense for me to apply for a post-doc instead and simply self-teach myself the things I don't know yet.

    2) What do you think are my chances of admission, considering that the programme is apparently intended as a preparatory master for students planning on doing their PhD right after, if I am applying to the programme not to do a PhD but rather to change the direction of my research focus into the political science field?

On of my current lecturers actually did something similar to this. He did a DPhil in Law at Oxford and wanted to pursue a career in lecturing, however he was also interested in Politics and IR so did a masters in Politics and International Relations at Cambridge and is now a specialist in International Law and Global Governance.
