The diagram shows an enclosure in the shape of a rectangle with dimensions 2x meters by y meters joined to an isosceles right-angled triangle with hypotenuse 2x meters. The enclosure has perimeter P meters and area A square meters.

a) (i) Express A in terms of x and y.
(ii) Express P in terms of x and y.

b) It is given that the perimeter of the enclosure is 100 meters.
(i) show that A=100x-(1+2√2)x^2

It's an isosceles right-angle triangle. Meaning the two perpendicular sides of the triangle are both equal length. In fact, if you say that they are then we must have the property which implies that .

So just find the perimeter and area of the house in terms of x and y
