Hi,
I had my AQA A-Level Chemistry Paper 2 this week. One question was concerned with the preparation of propanal using an oxidising agent. The question was "How would you maximise the yield of propanal?" You had to give 2 reasons, so I put:
1.) Have the beaker which collects the propanal cooled in ice to reduce propanal loss by evaporation.
2.) Use dilute acid and LESS than enough oxidising agent that is required for complete oxidation to a carboxylic acid.
Would I get both marks? My AQA text book has both of these in the method for preparation of an aldehyde, but I just wanted to make sure!
Thanks!
