PCGE general or with primary maths?

Hello guys!

I’m considering a SCITT however most don’t offer primary maths which is something I’d love to specialise in.

I’ve looked at the courses however offered by universities and there seems to be little difference in the gerneral course and the maths specialism course (for primary).

[My first degree is business so not mathematical but I’ve taken a few math-y modules.]

I’m just slightly torn, I’ve heard of horror stories of people traveling 2hours for placements at uni-lead providers so I’m reluctant to apply... plus new area and financially itd be a very big stretch.

I know it’s early days. But my heart was set on primary maths, I feel like I’d need to pick one or the other. 🙈

Does anyone have any advice?
Primary maths currently offers a £9000 bursary if you have a Maths A-level at grade B or above, which I imagine would help with costs?

When you apply for PGCEs, most are upfront about how far you would have to travel. If you do a PGCE based in a large city, travel times will be less.

As I understand it, doing a more specialist primary PGCE can be more beneficial for your career.
I don’t meet the criteria for the bursary. So it wouldn’t be of help for me.

Id love to enrol onto the primary maths course. And traveling costs is something I’d have to consider.

ill dig deeper when the time comes and make my decision then.

Thank you though
