How hard is it to get into chemical engineering?
It seems like the offers they make are ridiculously high, A*A*A* for most applicants. Also is it common to get rejected even before an interview ?

Depends on what sort of academic record you have. A univeristy like Imperial would not care about extra-curriculars and would be primarily focusing on academics. A strong set of GCSE's, good predicted grades (in science subjects if possible) paired with a top Personal Statement and references will make your application as strong if not stronger than someone else's.
