Should I do a joint degree? (sorry if this gets oddly specific)

Hi, I'm in year 12 and enjoying the existential crisis of trying to figure out what I want to do with university. I adore English Literature, and know without a doubt that I want to take it on to Uni. However, I also love German and am seriously wondering if a joint degree might be more suited to me, as I know job prospects are better and I just can't imagine giving either up. Ideally I'd like to focus on translation as a means to combine the two.
What is this like at Uni? Also, I'm worried that by only studying half of English I'll miss out on a lot of exciting modules and a chance to really lose myself in all of the literature. Finally, I've noticed a lot of universities have their own language learning centres- would these be enough to gain fluency without half a degree spent on it?

Thanks to anyone who managed to get through this chaos.
