Is it rude to ask for an update for an application? Will it affect my chance?

I applied for my masters a couple of months ago now. And I appreciate and understand the delays due to coronavirus, lockdown and high numbers. I’ve got all my uni results now and I’m happy with that- the only thing left is to know what I’m going to be doing in September.

I phoned up the admissions team today to ask whether they had an update and he said it says my application is still with the department but I should have heard back from them by now. He gave me the admissions tutor email but I’m really scared she will think I’m impatient and just not offer me a place for it? Obviously I’ll write the email in a really courteous way
