Hello!

I just got a conditional offer for MA Film at LCC and I have a few questions:

1. The condition is for English language proficiency as I am an international student but I graduated from New York University (Abu Dhabi campus) and our language of instruction was completely in English. In addition to that, my degree is from NYU New York and not from the UAE. I noticed on the website that it is possible to be exempt from the requirement if "Students who hold a qualification equivalent to a UK degree or higher where instruction was in English and the proposed course of study at UAL will be at RQF Level 6 or above for example BA, MA). The University sets minimum grades for each qualification.". My program needs an overall IELTS score of 6.5 which on the PDF shows is a GPA 3.0 for USA university degrees. I graduated last year with a GPA 3.9. I had sent in an official letter from the university stating the language of instruction as well as my old IELTS scores (which was an overall of 8) in my application but still received a conditional offer. Does this exempt me from the requirement? Its extremely expensive to sit for the test and I would love to be able to have it waived.

2. If it is waived, will it affect my student visa requirement? I have seen that the UK requires test scores as well but if the university waives the requirement, will it also be waived for my visa application?

3. Does anyone have an idea of how often or how probable it is for an international student to receive the 50k postgraduate scholarship? Since there are only 4, I realise its super competitive but its my only shot at being able to attend this fall.

4. I would also like some insight into the possibilities for taking out loans as an international student in the UK.

Thank you in advance!

I have noticed that depending on your native country you may need an approved UKVI english test for visa. I am also trying to apply to de 50k postgraduate scholarship, it does look like a competitive award as many of us ( from low-income countries) can´t afford the costs of the university, and it is a really good schoolarship. I am also looking for more information if someone have any about it. Good luck!
Hello  does anyone here study Jewellery design? I would love to hear more details about the course since I can’t find anything in other forums here. Thanks 🙏🏻

Hi,

I got a Conditonal Offer for the CCW Foundation course a couple days ago, with an English Language Certificate as the requirement.
Can I accept the offer before submiting the certificate? And in that case, how long do I have to submit it?

My IELTS Certificate wont arrive in time to respond to the offer (21 days after receiving the offer).

I've tried asking on other threads, nobody answered, so hopefully you can help me...

Thanks!

I had the same question. Because it's been quite some time since I uploaded my portfolio
how long dies it take get an interview for the ma course? I need to know if it's even a yes atp
What to do if admissions don’t communicate on a very important issue? Month ago I asked them about certificates and meeting offer conditions, got answer that they will contact me proactively, and all my subsequent emails went unanswered. I know they are busy, but deadlines passing, I paid for accommodation and I’m still not cleared about qualifications

Unfortunately you can see from this thread that their TSR reps and student ambassadors are equally bad at replying to questions.

Can you get a refund on your accommodation and go to a less disorganised university?
Hi, I am an International Student, and have troubles with the English requirements. The deadline has passed the 31 and I have emailed admissions team several times in the last weeks with no response so I don't know what to do. I took the PTE Academic for UKVI, and have achieved high scores except for speaking. The uni asks for 51 minimum in each skill and 58 overall. I have 70 in the other skills but got 49 ( just two points less) in speaking. This is due to technical problems faced during the exam, I am from a trird world country and it is harder to access to some exams. The computer was crushing during the exam. The point is that I repeated this exam to have a higher score on speaking and this technical sissue continues to happen even though I was performing better in each time I took the exam. I was told that maybe the uni has internal options I can take, or maybe they can accept this score, but have no answer from them. I am very worried on having to take a different exam like ielts but it will take more time to do so. In my country just one test center takes it and with almost no dates for it, that is why I thought PTE Academic was better. If anyone knows something about this I will truly appreciate. I feel completly alone with this problem. Both the university and in-country representatives don't answer to me at all. Thank you so much.

Hello and welcome to our Ask a UAL Student Ambassador thread!
Whether you’ve received a place, already applied, or are thinking about applying to UAL, post any questions you have here and our Student Ambassadors will do their best to answer
A little intro to our Ambassador currently running this thread:
Name: Tegan
Course: BA Fashion History and Theory, Central Saint Martins
Hello, my name is Tegan and I am a second-year Fashion History and Theory Student at Central Saint Martins (CSM). I moved to London last year to study my art foundation at CSM, moving to London has always been a dream of mine and it hasn't disappointed! There are so many opportunities for you at University, regardless of where you are. One of my favourite things about UAL is how it is made up of 6 different colleges, this means you get to meet people doing a diverse range of courses and you also are given access to all the libraries.
I am here to help if you have any questions 🙂

Hi I recently got an offer for the foundation course. Could anyone who did it give me a rough idea of how many days a week you were expected to attend + for what hours?
Hiya! Does anyone know if many people stay at Wigram House for CSM? Or which college has the most students staying at Wigram House? Thanks!

Hi,

I did my Foundation at CSM 4 years ago, so it might have changed by now. The course was full-time so I was required to attend it 4 or 5 days a week. It would have been mainly full days at the campus, something like 10-16 or so. I recommend using Unibuddy portal on UAL website to find most recent Foundation Diploma graduates from the discipline you will be studying to get some more up to date info.

Good luck,
Weronika

Hi,

I only participated in Bachelors interview at UAL. It lasted around 20-30 min for me. I think it can vary depending on how much work do you have to present and how the conversation goes, but I would not expect an interview to last longer than what I said. But again, this was my experience for BA.

Best,
Weronika

Hi,

I would advice asking the admissions team directly, as they will be the only ones to know for sure on what terms should you accept the offer.

Hi there, I was thinking of applying to UAL to study fashion public relations and communications. I was wondering how you found your experience at UAL and any advice to someone that is applying.

Hi,

There are some fashion communication students on Unibuddy you can ask: https://www.arts.ac.uk/study-at-ual/askastudent

hi! i was just wondering about student accommodation at CSM and if it’s worth doing that instead of living somewhere else in London that’s not part of UAL accommodation. do you think it’s necessary for first year students to stay in student accommodation to meet people etc. because i have other living options in London but don’t want to be left out if the majority of students are staying in student accommodation!

Hi,

It is totally a personal choice. I rented a private accommodation during my entire degree and this is something I preferred and enjoyed. I know the university in general advices first year students to try the UAL halls as its a great opportunity to make friends at the beginning of the course and settle in in a community, rather than being on your own. But it is fully whatever you feel may work for you.

Best,
Weronika
