Offers from LCF and Kingston

Hello, I’ve received several offers and I’m debating between LCF level 4 IPF and Kingston BA Fashion. It would be great if you can suggest me the pros and cons of both courses/universities.
What do you think are the pros and cons?

What are you hoping to use each course to do?

Hey @MMM_

Congratulations on your offer into the IPF course at LCF! It's so exciting!

The IPF course is brilliant to prepare you into delving deep into the fashion industry and really builds your foundation. It provides an opportunity to explore your creative potential, understand your strengths and natural flair. It's a space for you to experiment, explore and figure it out a little.

The topics covered will develop your holistic understanding of fashion and build your base. The course also develops your skills in visual communication and academic language which are so crucial.

Not only that, being tutored by experienced faculty, followed by their guidance on what specialisation would be best just gives you a sense of confidence because they've seen it all. I'm sure going into an undergraduate degree after this will make your overall career trajectory so much clearer and easier.

I personally think it's a great first step and I wish I had this option when I was starting university haha.

I hope this helps. Please do reach out with any more questions.

Is the IPF taught at the same site as LCF BAs?

Does it provide a recognised qualification?

How many students who completed the IPF go onto study at LCF? How many go on to CSM?
Hi @PQ

Thank you for your questions. Are you a potential applicant as well or in the middle of your application process?

To answer your questions:

Is the IPF taught at the same site as LCF BAs?

As of September 2024, all pre-degree courses have moved to the Lime Grove Campus. This moved will build a supportive environment for students taking their first steps into professional education or even international education. The students do have access to other UAL campuses and libraries.

Does it provide a recognised qualification?

Students who successfully complete the course gain a Certificate in Higher Education award, which is recognised nationally and internationally.

The course represents the scope of opportunity within the global fashion industry and reflects the progression opportunities available to the three undergraduate Schools of London College of Fashion:

School of Fashion Business.
School of Design and Technology.
School of Media and Communication.

How many students who completed the IPF go onto study at LCF? How many go on to CSM?

Most student who complete their IPF move onto pursuing an undergraduate degree at one of the LCF Schools.

Do reach out with any further questions.

Does awarding a CertHE cause problems with proving academic progression when applying for student route visas?

What do you mean “one of the LCF schools”? Could you give more precise proportions?

Hi there @MMM_ , Congratulations on receiving an offer at Kingston BA Fashion. I am in my 2nd year at Kingston's BA Fashion and here are a few of my favourite things about Kingston University!
Kingston has amazing open access facilities such as the 3D workshops, Print, Knit, Photography and Digital Making workshops that are open to any student regardless of what course you are in. At Kingston you do not have to commit to a specialised pathway but instead can choose to explore different fashion outcomes be it womenswear, menswear, knit or print!

If you would like to find out more, I highly recommend coming to one of Open Days to see for yourself our amazing facilities. Here are some links you may find useful:

Hi @PQ

Again, would love to know if you are an applicant or a potential applicant to help us guide you better.

For any concerns regarding visas, I would recommend visiting Visas and Immigration. Incase there are still unanswered questions, I would recommend reaching out to the concerned team with your details.

For your second question, you can email [email protected] with your question and they can reach out to other teams and provide you some statistical data.

Hope this answers your questions.

I’m not an applicant. I’m an HE professional who is concerned at you promoting a CertHE to an international applicant without understanding the visa implications of your promotion.

Have you had CMA training from your employer?

Hi,

To answer the above queries I did seek advice from a member of the admissions teams and like mentioned earlier we recommend anyone with specific questions to contact the team directly.

LCF is more prestigious and recognised. I believe you would get more opportunities there.

£23k plus an extra year living expenses and not earning a wage more prestigious?

Not forgetting no guaranteed progression to your own choice of BA at LCF - only onto the BA approved by staff at LCF.
