Allow Unite Student tenants to cancel 2020/2021 tenancy without replacement
As you know with the situation surrounding COVID-19 it has caused major disruptions for many of us studying at university. We have been forced to shift to online learning for the remainder of the year & have been informed that the first academic term up until at least January 2021 will be online & in some universities the entire 20/21 academic year.
Because of this situation which a lot of us didn't see coming, many students don't feel the need to have accommodation booked & would like to cancel our tenancy for the academic year 20/21. However, unite students have not offered us flexibility in cancelling our tenancy for the next year & we are required to have someone take over our tenancy or else we are forced to pay the rent costs for the whole year.
We believe we should be allowed to cancel our tenancy agreement for the academic year 20/21 without needing someone to take our place. Please sign this petition & write to unite students requesting we be allowed to terminate our tenancy without this specific stipulation.
