Can you transfer college?

Hi,
Here's one for y'all: can u transfer from one college to another at Oxford? e.g. Exeter to New (just an example).
Reason: say, to be in the same college as a particular tutor whose subject interested you. Or if you found your college too small when you started there. Or if you didn't settle in well.
anyone know this? anyone know of reasons why / how this would be allowed?

I've never heard of it happening, and can't think of any reason why it would be necessary. You can't change college just because you don't like it, and if you want to be taught a specific subject, unless you're on a syllabus-specific course like Medicine, then there'd probably be the opportunity to be taught by tutors not from your own college. I've never heard of a person changing college though.

You certainly can change college, but there's no need to change just to have a different tutor as you can request to be taught by any tutor anyway. In fact, after the first year once you start to specialise, it's very likely you'll be taught outside of college anyway.

Only seen one first-year transfer, and that was because he transferred to a course not offered at his college!

But that's basically for a new degree course, I don't think they do much swapping of students in the middle of the degree.

yes, like you can transfer from oxford to durham, or oxford to mancester, or oxford to UCL ect. though most of the time you've to start the course from scratch, mind.

It's certainly very difficult to change college, even between undergrad / grad courses (at which point it should, in theory, be easy). It proved easier to change university :biggrin:
