What was your experience with DSA like? (for mental health)

I've applied for DSA because of my long term mental health issues (depression and anxiety). I was just wondering what kinds of support you can get as I'm not really sure what to expect. I think having some money to be able to travel home (by train or coach) more often may help. Maybe also a mentor and note-taker for if I'm too ill to go in for lectures. I'd hope I'd be ok most of the time but when I get low I can barely get out of bed let alone go to lectures. What kinds of things anyone else get that applied for DSA for mental health reasons? Also, what is the assessment like? I'm guessing it's in person? I'm not confident I'll be able to get anything but I thought it's worth a try. I've uploaded a doctor's letter as evidence and am wating for a reply now.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks

Iv just been awarded it for Bipolar.
Im getting a laptop, with text to speach softwear and a mindmapping software as i struggle to read due to cincentratiin and possibly dyslexia.
Im also getting a printer with money to buy ink and paper due to needing to print off things to annotate. And specialist mentor to help with organisation and to help get through uni.

The assessment was pretty informal, mine was on zoom instead of physically face to face. Its probably unlikely youll get money to go back home though. That isnt really what DSA is for as its to help you with your studies...

Heya
I got DSA for dyslexia, dyspraxia and also anxiety
My initial DSA assessment was over zoom, but they were really friendly and ended up suggesting most of the things I needed :yep:
For anxiety I got: I could do in person exams/tests in a separate room, a 1:1 study skills person which I have a chat to each week (mentor), an audio note taker (so I don’t have to write notes in lectures/seminars), and text to speech which is really useful as I don’t always feel like reading stuff or think there’s too much to read
Your uni will definitely have a disability office, so email them asap, you might be given a disability advisor who can help you if you need extensions or more time on assisngments and stuff (I found mine really useful this year because I had a couple of funerals to go to and a lot of assignments around when it was).
Hope that helps, feel free to ask is you have any more questions
