Do you mean in terms of a piano? The sustain pedal is used when you want a note to sustain/hold, or in other words, ring out for longer.

I think some people also call it the damper pedal but it's the same thing.
A suspension is a type of chord, where the third is replaced by a perfect 4th or a major 2nd (usually the perfect 4th).

A pedal note (for GCSE music) is a tone that is held, you can typically find it in the bassline of a peice.
