I represent tenants in deposit disputes - AMA!
As student tenancies are ending, I'm aware many of you will be facing unreasonable deposit deductions in the coming weeks and may feel unsure about how to contest them (or question whether you even can contest them!)
The good news is you can and should contest deposit deductions!
The figures from the deposit protection schemes show that c. 80% of deposit claims by landlords are excessive and are reduced if the scheme adjudicates on the deductions sought. So no matter what, don't assume your LL is playing fair!
