A2 Media studies, need some ideas?

I need to come up with a statement or question something like “how did casino royal redefine the action/spy genre” and then write a 3000 word essay on it looking at the Audience/Genre/Ideology/Institution/Narrative and Representation. I am struggling to think of a good question though as I mostly just watch comedy films or TV…I need a film with a good plot or a film the raises questions, basically one I can write 3000 words on,

If any one can help me out it would be very much appreciated

You could talk about the recent surge in the 'torture porn' genre. Films like Hard Candy, Saw, Hostel seem to have become more popular than ever in recent years (maybe check box office stats, etc). You could talk about how this genre has a habit of conforming to convention (damsels in distress), but also how it subverts these conventions (Hard Candy being a fairly good example) - quite relevant to the representation aspect.

I've just finished my 3000 word dissertation - it's not as hard as you think once you start writing it! :smile:

Do you have to do a film tho? Can't you do something that you're more interested in like you said? We were allowed to choose anything we wanted as long as it was released within the last 2 years.

it has to be a film or tv program but I just thought it would be easier to do it on a film, what did you do yours on? Also did anyone in your class do a film? Any good films you could suggest?

I chose the film Crash and a couple of others in my class wrote about that too. Someone did Kidulthood and someone else did the Da Vinci Code I think. Haven't got a clue what their questions were tho!

I have to do this for my A2 media as well, but I didn't really understand when our teacher was explaining it, the type of things we have to write about. He mentioned one student who wrote about the media and Marylin Manson, and made a campaign about bullying for the practicle, however he said the grade wasnt too good as the link was that Marylin Manson was bullied at school and that it wasnt strong enough. I am having a major struggle thinking of what to write about! Im thinking something about Avatar and the finanaical aspects of it...ideas?!
