The questions in red are an old style of question called grid questions in section one of the old Standard Grade chemistry exams.
Sometimes one answer from 6 was the right answer. Sometimes you had to pick two answers. In these two answer questions, sometimes it was worth one mark (if the reasoning was the same to get both answers) or worth 2 marks if both answers were right for different reasons. In the early days of Standard grade they wouldn’t tell you how many marks the grid questions was worth making the questions a bit harder.

The content of these red questions is still relevant but the style of question is no longer used in Nat5, Higher or AH.
Except one Nat5 question just to be weird.
