Choosing which uni to go to

Hello,

I have got offers from UCL and Birmingham for Chemistry. Both courses are integrated Masters but the one at Birmingham has industrial placement in the third year with distance learning. I don't know which one to choose.

I'd probably suggest the one with the placement as if you can line up something suitable you'll have much better employability on graduating. However the placement will be up to you to arrange.

The exception is if you want to go into investment banking or management consulting, in which case UCL is a target uni and Birmingham is not (it might be a semi-target for investment banking, not sure). So in that case UCL is the only option. For anything else as above, the placement is probably better - in the UK "brand name" matters little outside of investment banking and management consulting.

I imagine Birmingham is also cheaper than London! Of course if you always wanted to live in London for uni or something then that's a fair consideration too :smile:
