Short Courses at Kingston University

Although most people think only of bachelor's or postgraduate degrees when they hear about university education, that's not always the case. For example, Kingston offers various different short courses - especially in the summer months - where people from both the UK and abroad can make use of our top-quality facilities. As someone who's taken part in short courses before, I really can't recommend them enough - you'd be surprised how much you can learn in a relatively short period of time!

Summer Schools
If you're an international student, why not consider joining us for one of our popular Summer School programmes this July? With programmes lasting two or four weeks, you'll get a chance to experience typical British university life whilst also staying in the historic market town of Kingston-upon-Thames. With lots of field trips worked into the programme to allow you to see to the city London at its finest, some of the subjects studied include creative writing, civil liberty and human rights, live theatre and even 'Muggle Madness: Harry Potter and other popular British icons'. What's more - all classes are accredited, so you can definitely stick the experience on your CV for the future!

English Language Courses
London is a melting pot of international cultures - and Kingston University is no different! Whether you're a KU student, a prospective student, or just a member of the general public wanting to brush up on their English Language skills, Kingston University offers several different English Language and English for Academic and Professional Development courses throughout the year for those with English as a second language. Not just do these courses further develop your knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar, but they can also be a great way to meet other international peers to practise alongside!

Kingston School of Art Short Courses
With KSA's top of the range workshops, preparing for a foundation year has never been easier! I know firsthand that applying to art school foundations can be rough, especially when they seem to get more and more competitive each year. Luckily, KSA runs a Foundation Preparation Summer School, a two-week long programme which will help prepare you for the next step in your art education. Taught by Kingston's own experienced Foundation tutors, this is a great way to develop your visual thinking skills whilst also meeting like-minded peers.

If you're not interested in Foundation prep, don't worry! KSA offers dozens of other short courses for individuals of all abilities, including:

- 3-Day Life Drawing Workshop
- Introduction to Animation
- Introduction to Architecture
- Net Zero Carbon: Architecture and Landscape for Climate Emergency Summer School
- Sustainable Fashion: Upcycling and Repair
- Music: Studio and DAW Operations

Help To Grow Management Courses
If you're a business owner, no matter how small, this may be the course for you. Covering the key topics of strategy and innovation, marketing and branding, digital adoption and even finance, this 12-week course combines a mix of 1:1 support, workshops and online study to help you develop a growth plan for you're business's future. Better yet, the programme is 90% government funded, helping keep the cost to you low whilst maximising the amount you can earn back!

STEM Courses - Level 4 Engineering Design & Professional Practice
If you're a UK resident over eighteen who's interested in building a career in Civil Engineering, Construction or Surveying, this may be the course for you. Introducing the idea of sustainability and design into engineering, you'll learn the basic principles of computer aided design whilst building up your soft skills in teamwork, communication and leadership. Focusing on helping those without Level 4 qualifications get a foot on the industry ladder, this weekly course can also help those interested in pursuing foundation years or higher degree apprentices in civil engineering.

Health and Social Care Short Courses
With the cost of living crisis, lots of individuals are looking into returning to fields they may have previously left. If you're a nurse or midwife whose NMC registration has lapsed for whatever reason, why not consider taking part in Kingston University's 'Return to Practice Nursing & Midwifery' course? Over two weeks, you'll regain confidence in your skills and revise the standards of proficiency required of the NMC register - with Kingston University's internationally recognised HSC departments, you'll definitely be in safe hands!

Hope this was helpful! If you need more information, or would like me to drop any links so you can follow up on these courses, just let me know down
