4 year MRes+PhD with an MEng
I have an MEng, applied for a PhD at a CDT and my offer is for a 4 year Phd with the 1st year being a MRes, is this normal? Or is this like a slightly downgraded offer?
The PhD description was for a 4 year funded PhD studentship and it did require me to apply to the MRes and PhD course through the CDT however the CDT itself says it does offer just PhD positions with the MRes.

For the CDT funding you'll need to do both the MRes and the PhD components. I've just finished my MEng and I'm starting an MRes + PhD in October myself. It's a common thing to do and an excellent option for securing funding and enhancing your research skills, as the MRes content will be really useful for the PhD afterwards.
