You'll get a number of different graphs depending on the value of a.

I. E. When a is 0 you'll simply get an x^2 graph, when a is 1, x^2 - 2.

I'm not clear what exam question would ask that without giving more guidance, and if a is a value that is intended to be solved then you will have extra information that enables you to do that (a point, turning points, roots etc..)

If if it isn't to be solved, pick a range of values (e.g. A from 2 to - 2) and plot the graphs on the same axis.

As with standard graph procedures...

1) It's always a quadratic, i.e. the graph should look like a parabola.
2) You can find it's intercepts quite easily.
3) Then "fit" the parabola into it.

If you don't know how to deal with the a, assume a is positive - what happens? (write down your assumption btw).
What about a is negative? How about a is zero?
