Do GCSEs matter a lot for Oxford?

GCSEs are only one factor in the Oxford University admissions process. However, now with the linear A-Level system in place, the only certificated results are GCSEs and they're the only grades declared on the UCAS form whilst A-Levels are usually predicted grades unless you submit a certificated AS-Level result(s).

Also, you need to realise Oxford also consider your entire application from the reference, UCAS Personal Statement, AS Level results (if certificated), A-Level predicted grades and especially for Medicine and Law the UCAT and LNAT tests as well as for other subjects the tests of selection and above all the mighty interviews with the Professors at the colleges.

Otherwise you could apply to Cambridge University, which places less emphasis on excellent GCSE grades.
