Is it necessary for me to know carbon in paper 1 for example like how it's formed etc. because I don't even remember that.

I would say yes because anything from Globalisation, Superpowers, Carbon/Water and Tectonics come up BUT it would be very unlikely they will ask about how carbon is formed coz I can't think of how it would fit in with anything in the data book if anything it would be an 8 or 4 marker.
