PhD Physics at same Uni as masters

Hello

Is it easier to get a place at the same university you did for your masters. I am at KCL doing MSc Theoretical Physics next year. My question is, is it easier for me to get a place at KCL for a PhD compared to external applicants?

Thanks

Well "easier" in that you are more likely to know potential supervisors and be able to ask them about funding etc early on, and your supervisor can get a quick, informal reference by chatting to someone in the coffee queue. However supervisors tend to want to recruit the best candidate they can (assuming a good social fit to the research team) so don’t tend to care very much about internal versus external provided the institutions are of broadly equivalent quality.
