A level english literature

Hi, i am starting my a levels in September and part of my English literature is to read 2 novels (pre 1900 and post 1900) which both preferably share something in common such as their themes. Does anyone have any ideas of novels that go well together- both differences and similarity's. I would like to read classical but i am not sure really which ones compare and quite frankly i do not want to read every single classic to find out so help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! I would recommend choosing a starting point and working from there. Do you have a favourite book? Have a look at the themes in your favourite book (spark notes and various other websites will list these) and then use Google to find a pre or post 1900 book with similar themes.
Or if you'd rather start with a theme or theory you are interested in you can use Google to help you choose two books surrounding it instead.
