RIP Trevor Francis, Britain's First £1m Player

"Former England forward Trevor Francis has died aged 69. In 1979 he became Britain's first £1m footballer when he moved from Birmingham City to Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest."

He was worth every penny, but so much more than just his price tag. I had the privilege of seeing him both play for and manage my team, Sheffield Wednesday. He was still an incredibly talented footballer towards the end of his career and yes, he was, as reports are saying, a genuinely lovely character, always had time for the fans.
Although I have never known him as active player - that was before my birth - I am aware of his contributions to Nottingham. I guess that he made many Notringham supporters happy at that time. Rest in Peace, Francis!
