goldsmiths or essex for psych

Results day was on thursday and I had firmed bristol to study psych and neuroscience. My results were horrible so I didn't get into bristol, but got into my insurance (Leicester: Declined my place cause I hated the uni after going to the offer holder day), decided to go through clearing and got an offer from both goldsmiths and essex to study psych with cognitive neuroscience. I have visited goldsmiths and thought the uni was nice, but am worried that the psych course won't be good because the uni is more arts focused and well known for its arts courses. I tried applying to essex about 2 days ago (didn't initially try on thursday cause i didn't think i'd get in), but they gave me an offer for the course. I'm yet to visit essex because the clearing open day was the same day as the goldsmiths one, but they have an open day for the colchester campus on the 16th september (course for essex starts in oct so i have time to decide). The goldsmiths course starts on the 25th sept, so im slightly worried that I won't have time to change my mind if i like essex more than goldsmiths (I currently hold a place at goldsmiths which I am planning on declining if i like essex more). Any advice?
Just because a university has a reputation for one subject area, it does not mean it is rubbish in other areas. Select the course that has the content that interests you and go to the highest ranking university that will accept you.
The rest is fluff. Are you worried you might not like the plants in the university garden or that food might not be as good at the canteen? Or that the lecture rooms might have hard seats?
Essex, Goldsmith's location is hideous in my opinion and Colchester is actually nice. Their campus is half-decent as well, including their psychology department (I have explored both in the past).

Hey!

Its great to hear you are thinking of us!

Our psychology department work really hard to engage our students in their studies, and academics own individual research. We do have lots of facilities on campus such as, Dedicated laboratories including a virtual reality suite and an observation suite, specialist areas to study visual and auditory perception, developmental psychology and social psychology, a Baby Lab, and mutli-million pound brain centre - What is great is that due to us being a campus university everything you need is all in one place, especially with the psychology department having their own dedicated building.

You can also find our psychology department on Unibuddy, where you can ask them any questions about your course! Check it out through this link: https://www.essex.ac.uk/life/chat.

A great way to see if you will like us, is definitely by visiting us on an open day! But a good way to see Essex before the open day is by taking a look at our virtual tour of the Colchester campus: https://www1.essex.ac.uk/virtual-tours/colchester/. This can take you around the campus, where you can explore the psychology building, and everything else we have to offer! 😁

In terms of campus: Our gym is home to over 160 fitness stations, on-site parking, machines with TV and audio systems and 300 fitness classes every month. We have our 250-metre climbing wall with bouldering and top roping facilities, as well as having over 20 indoor courts including basketball, volleyball, squash, netball and futsal. Our 40 acres of outdoor sports space includes an 18-hole disc golf course, cricket pitch, tennis court, jogging routes, two rugby pitches and five football pitches.💪🤸⛹️🏋️🏂🏇🏌️

Overlooking the lakes at the heart of our Colchester Campus is the Albert Sloman Library. Use our paternoster lift to reach six floors of research resources, specialist materials, and of course a whole lot of books. It's the perfect environment for quiet reading or that last-minute essay. The library is open 24/7 during term time and has a wide range of learning resources; books, journals, British and foreign-newspapers, microfilms and audio-visual materials - most of course materials are online as well so you can access this from home just as well. 📕📚📑

We have over 165 societies and clubs to join and be part of! I personally did Cheerleading and enjoyed being in a competitive team, where we travelled across the country for competitions, as well as having social events together!🎀

As Britain's oldest recorded development, the city of Colchester is steeped in over two thousand years of history after being founded by the Ancient Romans, and it's also where our main university campus is located. But it's not just Colchester that has lots for you to explore. Chelmsford is near by, showcasing a bustling city centre packed full of shops and restaurants, it's also the birthplace of radio. A little further north of the county you'll find the village Tiptree, so famous for producing jam, The Queen marked their 125th celebration with a visit by Her Majesty🍓🍒. Our Colchester Campus is also easily reached from London and Stansted Airport in under one hour, with 3 train stations near by🚅🛫

Check out our website for everything we have to offer on campus: https://www.essex.ac.uk/life/colchester-campus.

And check this out to see what is going on in Colchester: https://incolchester.co.uk/events.

I understand this is a lot of info - but I hope this helps! ✨😎🎓😊😁

Thank you 😊 I’ve booked to visit for an open day but I think that might be a bit too late to decide since the other uni I’m considering will probably begin enrolling around then, so I’ve tried to book for a campus tour for next week Wednesday I’m just waiting for confirmation
