Do I need further maths to study physics

In my GCSEs my results were:

Biology 7
- Business 5
Chemistry 7
- English literature 7
- English language 8
- History 7
Physics 8
- Maths 8
- French 6

This means I can study A level physics and mathematics. However since I do Edexcel IGCSE, I got an 8 with only getting 129/200. My teacher said we should only do further maths with a 9, but I can still study it. I think I should not study it, but I am worried this would not look good for university, where physics is highly mathematical.

I suspect a few here in TSR will have an opinion on the assertion from your teacher that you should only take Further Maths at A level if you obtained a grade 9 in Maths at GCSE. @Muttley79, any thoughts?

If you didn't take Further Maths, what would you take instead? Maths, Physics and...?

We prefer a grade 9 but accept grade 8s if we expected them to get a grade 9. I know iGCSE is a bt different to GCSE. Why not start FMaths and take another to start with just in case.

Further maths is really really hard and already 3 people have dropped out, from a class of mostly 9s. And I got a 9 and am having to work so hard at it. But if you work really really hard, then with an 8 you should be okay.

It will make single maths feel easy and the further mechanics really helps with the physics and vice versa so I'd try it out at least
