GCSE Computing - How does TCP/IP work?

What does the TCP/IP protocol do? Does it override the HTTP protocol or other protocols? How does it work? I am very confused.
TCP is used to separate data into packets and send them between 2 devices, ensuring there are no errors in the data and the packets can be reassembled in the right order. IP does the same thing but over a wide area network, which is why they're often paired together

Rather than replacing TCP/IP, protocols like HTTP use TCP/IP for transmitting data over the internet and add their own functionality on top. The concept of protocols relying on other protocols is called layering, and you can read more about it here: https://isaaccomputerscience.org/concepts/net_network_protocols
