Hi, thank you for replying. I am the first in my family to want to pursue engineering and finance as I love maths, physics and economics. however, there is no one I can talk to. It would be great to have some work experience where I could shadow people at work to get a real perspective before I commit to a uni degree specialisation.

Also https://www.etrust.org.uk/residential-insight-into-university is invaluable if you're interested in engineering and need more insight into things - something like https://www.etrust.org.uk/broadbasedengatuniofsheffield would be your best bet (if the cost is too much then they do have bursaries and you're exactly who they're aiming their summer schools at) they also offer a virtual version https://www.etrust.org.uk/insight-into-university
Smallpiece have a similar scheme https://www.smallpeicetrust.org.uk/momentum-events but no details yet for next summer

Lots of universities also run residential experiences and summer schools independently - if you look on their websites or google you should find details although many aren't specific about summer 2024 activities yet (eg https://www.southampton.ac.uk/schools-colleges/residentials-summer-schools.page or https://www.swansea.ac.uk/science-and-engineering/courses/engineering/summer-schools/ )
