Hi there,

Universities do set coursework to challenge students but that being said it’s not meant to be an impossible task. The difficulty depends on each student, but through my experience most of the times lecturers are willing to help you if you ask for it. In terms of workload it does depend on the course but usually it’s manageable especially considering that most student are part of societies and take up extracurriculars whilst at university. The main difference from sixth form is that the workload is more independent and it more up to students themselves how they choose to manage it in their time.

I hope this helps!

Hi there

The jump between sixth form and university can be quite large. Sixth-form students get more tests (e.g. for each topic) but these may not count towards the final grade. University coursework on the other hand often counts towards final grades. Coursework is not difficult, but wanting to get good grades can require a lot more effort and research.

The workload really depends on the subjects that you are taking. Some may find University to be more challenging, others would disagree. The main issue is the time management aspect of University life, you are given the freedom and independence to complete your work on time, so being self-motivated is really important.

Overall, University is quite enjoyable given the freedom, the work-life balance. The studies are quite manageable and there is always support available from seminar leaders/ lecturers if you need it.

I hope this helps.

@Syed998

At university, you complete different modules which have different requirements and which will be assessed differently. You may end up doing modules that are mainly exam-based or a combination of exams and coursework. Depending on deadlines and what needs to be done, you may find the workload easy to manage or difficult.

The first year gives you time to get used to university life, from learning how lectures and seminars work to becoming familiar with the university library, journals and referencing, so you will have time to learn how to manage your studies and to find your best way of working.

There is normally an increase in workload/difficulty in the second and third years, but again this is why in your first year, you are eased into university life.

Hope that helps,
