Events happening at DMU and Leicester City - December edition

I just thought I would take this opportunity to let everyone know what fun festive events we have planned at our University this December as well as Leicester city itself. :santa3:

This is to get an idea of what you could get up to as a student in Leicester and even to our current students to get inspiration from! Hopefully this post can help prospective students, to help get an idea of what Leicester is all about and have an idea of the sense of a community that is present within our city and our campus at DMU. :grouphugs:

Christmas pub quiz :smartass:

on 4^th December 18:00 – 21:00 (free event)
-What a great way to get into the festive spirit? Win some fantastic prizes for being the quiz winners as well as having the best Christmas jumpers. Exclusive special help yourself to servings of mulled wine and mince pies.

Christmas party 5^th December 21:00 – 01:00 (from £3)
-Everyone loves a Christmas jingle right? Dance the night away with drink deals and cheesy Christmas music :party:

Wellbeing Wednesday: Bauble decorating 11:00 – 13:00 (free event)
-Decorate your own bauble to hang on your Christmas tree/ or even bring back home for the holidays! I have already got my ticket for this – can’t wait

Mature students’ catch up! 6^th December 13:00 – 14:00 (free event)
-Worried about being a mature student and not fitting in? We have plenty of events like this aimed towards mature students for a chance to support and socialise with each other. You can even give feedback to our Mature Liberation Officer. This happens the first Wednesday of every month (term time only) :shakehand:

Christmas movie night 6^th December 17:00 – 23:45 (from £3)
-Join us at our festive line up of movies, maybe we are showing your favourite film? The films are The Grinch, Home alone and The Polar Express. :train2:

My favourite film I watch every year is Home Alone, it’s a Christmas must for me! A serving of popcorn is also provided with ticket entry

Foodie Christmas Fair 6th December 11:00 - 15:00 (free event)
-Enjoy free festive food and drink samples ranging from Cornish Pasties, Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Subway, Tugo and more :tee:

Winter Wonderland 7^th December 11:00 – 15:00 (free event)
-Join us at our own winter wonderland at the Student Union we have live music performed by our very own DMU Music Society, the DMU enterprise and entrepreneurship Christmas Fair (have a browse and buy some great unique gifts from students and graduates) and it is magically decorated head to toe. :mrfreeze:

Pub Quiz 11^th December 18:00 – 22:00 (free event)
-A great way to flaunt your knowledge and win some prizes. This happens almost every Monday unless specified :smartass:

In Leicester itself there is plenty of festive opportunities and we even have a festive trail available at Christmas at Leicester so you don’t miss out on any events and have a chance to enter a competition. :santa2:

Ice rink located at Jubilee Square open from 7^th December till 7^th January 2024, 10:00 – 20:45 from £5
-Show off some moves or learn something new, the ice rink is a perfect affordable activity to do rain or shine as it is a covered rink

Wheel of light Ferris Wheel at Jubilee Square 17^th November till 2^nd January 2024 12:00 – 22:00 from £4.50
-Ride our Ferris Wheel which lasts about 8-10 minutes, and you will be 110 feet in the sky a perfect height to see the sights of Leicester

Billy Bates Fun Fair at Humberstone Gate 11^th November till 7^th January
-Bright lights and thrilling rides to have all the festive fun :reindeer:

Festive fun at Town Hall Square

-Santa’s Grotto (free) :santa2:

-Traditional Nativity Scene (free)

Enlightened Leicester at Christmas at Abbey Park 16^th November till 24^th December 17:00 – 20:30, adults £12.50
-Come down to Abbey Park which is a new event for 2023 which has a light trail which illuminates the park with lights and interactive elements, I can’t wait to see this in person!

Bright Christmas at Highcross Shopping Centre (free event) 22^nd November till 6^th December
-Unique and immersive light experience enclosed with mirrors reflecting the LED Christmas lights

BID Light Installation at The Circle (bottom of New Walk) 13^th December – 23^rd December (free event) Open from 12 and lights on from 16:00 – 22:00
-Another immersive light experience with audio also, beautiful to look at and a great photo opportunity
