Careers with maths literacy

Define maths literacy. Is this the level 2 qualification or are you asking for quantitative careers?

The level 2 qualification is usually just to show that you have the minimum maths literacy to do most jobs. Whilst a number of the jobs in the UK doesn't strictly require you to show that you have maths skills at level 2, you are more or less expected to have something similar. It's also not a particularly high bar in terms of maths requirements.

In terms of quantitative careers, you're going to be hard press to find anything that requires maths of level 3 standard or higher in the world of work. The more quantitative careers that traditionally require difficult and higher level maths such as calculus, trigonometry, and complex numbers, now use computers more than they do actual number crunching skills. Having said that, the disciplines that use the most maths include the following:

Financial engineering, quantitative analysis, and actuarial science

Economics - more economics modelling than anything else

Physics research

Engineering in general

Maths research/mathematician

Data science/analysis and statician

Bioinformatics

The roles that would likely require you to calculate answers are more aligned with theroetical physics (and possibly computational chemistry), economics modelling, and maths research. Pretty much everything else uses computers to do most of the number crunching.
