i'm in year 12. the first month or so was going great, then all of a sudden i just started falling behind in econ. i've been consolidating regularly and i think i have a decent understanding of the content, but i just don't know how to go about answering questions. i don't even know where to begin, i barely understand what i'm struggling with. help???? how are you all studying for econ??

Not yet then. But use Tutor2U. Get the student editions of the notes. Because my cousin got an A grade with them.

Hey! I'm in year 13 and do economics (edexcel). Don't do past papers yet - there's no point. The fact that you have a decent understanding of the topic is very good, the cherry on top is just knowing how to answer the questions!!
The questions I am referring to are from AS paper structures, not A Levels.

1 + 2 markers - you probably know how to answer these. Just learn definitions + make sure you're fine with percentage changes etc

3 markers - BLT --> Because, Leading to, Therefore. This is the easiest formula to learn and you can't go wrong. For example, state one advantage of specialisation. Specialisation is the concentration of one task/ labour at the exclusion of others. One benefit is greater productivity. This is because people are experts at their craft. This leads to people being faster because they know what they're doing. Therefore, productivity increases since people are able to make more in less time. (obviously that answer will be written better than that but I hope you get the principle!!)

5 markers - do not be fooled with these ones. just because they are in the long answer section doesn't mean you should give a long answer - don't waste your time. Define any key terms, use one piece information from the extract, and draw a diagram if necessary. you can use BLT here, too

6 markers - TWO POINTS!! you need 2 points with this type of question. here, also use two pieces of data from the extract. use a diagram is it helps. no need to write a conclusion

10 marks - TWO POINTS (again)!! also use at least 2 pieces of data, use a diagram unless it's impossible to do so. no need to write a conclusion. the difference between a 6 + a 10 marker is that 10 markers must have evaluation after each point you make. this is essential.

15 markers - 3 points! evaluation after each point. use a diagram at least once. use at least 2 pieces of data from extract. no need for conclusion

20 markers - i know this sounds weird, but 2 points will suffice here. this is because you must write a conclusion. don't forget to use diagrams + data from extracts. top tip with 20 markers - the conclusion must be as long as one of your paragraphs.

20 marker conclusion structure - AJISL... Answer the question, Justify your answer, It depends on..., Short term impact (eg. what will the short term impacts be of your answer?), Long term impact.

the conclusion in a 20 marker is much more important than 3 paragraphs with no conclusion. top tip - if you only have 7ish minutes left in an exam, and you are about to write a 3rd para and a two sentence conclusion - don't do that. just write the chunky conclusion and use the remaining 3 minutes to check back your 1 or 2 markers. (but of course if you can, write 3 paragraphs and a chunky conclusion)

i really hope this has helped you!! please let me know if you've got any more questions

It could be easier to answer if you could say exactly where your facing challenge

mainly answering exam questions, i think? i barely know myself. i always think i'm prepared for a test, then i go into it and struggle/get a low result compared to others in my class... so i assume it's exam technique?
"Econplusdal" is a YouTube channel. Try his channel, I'm pretty sure it will help you. He helped me to achieve A in my AS econ exams!!

I picked economics in yr 12 and i hadnt done it before. So i was falling behind my classmates in school exams. Then i realised that the problem was the way i was answering questions. After i got that, i started doing past papers. i would revise one topic and search out questions from past papers. I noticed that they repeated questions from some topics. I did this and managed to get the highest in paper 2 in my whole class for finals!
