In short, yes you can.

The longer answer, it used to be that you had to be a registered nurse before studying to become a midwife in the UK. These days, you can go into midwifery and it has separated itself as a profession somewhat from nursing so you can be a midwife without being a nurse. There are still postreg courses out there for registered nurses to dual-register as midwives, though from what I’ve heard they are fewer in number than they used to be.

If you were dual qualified and you wanted to practice in both roles you would need to meet the realisation requirements for both roles, so practice hours and CPD requirements would be more than if you held just a single registration.

How likely will it be for you to get two separate jobs without it affecting each other when you are working a rotation shift pattern.... You'll probably have to negotiate a fixed days schedule so you work say Saturday and Monday as a adult nurse each week and then say that you are working a wednesday and Thursday as a midwife ( fixed days) you might find most hospital trusts are fine doing this.

You have to do a minimum of 450 hours over the three years for each registration you hold ( so this will be 900 hours you need to work over the three years of your NMC registration for the two )
As per moonkatt said in reply 1 to you about it.
