What is un capped marking in uk

If im correct what it means is when you resit a module/coursework it will show the mark you would have got if it was not capped.

example: you fail your work for coursework 1 getting below 40%.... on the retake for coursework one, which will be capped at 40% (minimum pass) they will show the grade you would have got originally for that particular work.
