Business Management vs Economics

Hi everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma and could use some insights. I'm torn between choosing Business Management and Economics for my studies. I was wondering if any of you could share your experiences or thoughts on which course might be better and if one tends to offer more job opportunities than the other.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Economics is more versatile and respected imo, but it depends what you enjoy. I think econ is quite maths heavy in uni but if that’s not an issue then it’s possibly the better choice.

Hello,

I totally get the struggle of picking between Business Management and Economics. I'm doing a master's in International Business Management, and it covers economics too. I've had the chance to apply what I learned in economics to various modules in my master's program. Business Management, for me, turned out to be super diverse, offering a holistic view of many interesting areas.
The mix of applying economics concepts to real-world situations (current market or company analysis) within the broader scope of Business Management made the learning experience more dynamic for me.
With IBM, I've got a bunch of job options in the market. But, if you're really into economics, like, super passionate about it, just go for it. It might lead to a more specialised and satisfying career.
Think about what you love and where you see yourself in the future. Both are cool choices, so trust your gut!

Cheers,
MSc IBM Student, Heriot-Watt.

Depends a lot on how good you are a maths. Are you taking maths a level - in which case what grade?
Recruiters really don't mind what degree you do much anymore, they care more about your experience. Yes Economics is more respected but if you think you'll do better academically in business, then go for that as economics involves more maths and complicated content. Honestly, it depends on what you care more about. You can apply for the same opportunities and I know business students who have been able to get the same interships/placements/grad schemes as econ students.
