Kingston University Study Abroad Program

Are you someone that’s considering studying abroad? Or are you looking into what wider opportunities are available at Kingston? Regardless, while travelling alone to another country may seem daunting, there’s a lot of benefits that come from Kingston University’s study abroad program!

What is the Study Abroad Program?

The study abroad program is an opportunity for students to study anywhere from a semester to a year in a foreign country, usually an institute partnered with the university. It’s available to all undergraduate students at Kingston University excluding health degree students.

Why Study Abroad?

Studying abroad can be a life changing experience, allowing you to experience new cultures, visit places you’ve always dreamed of, meet new friends from across the globe and putting you ahead of other UK students in terms of employability as part of the 8% who study abroad during their degree.

You pay no tuition fees to the host university and receive a large cut on your tuition fee to Kingston if you study abroad for a full year, all whilst still qualifying for student loans. All students going abroad receive a bursary or grant eg. The Turing Scheme, which offers additional support to students depending on your program and circumstances. Some countries and universities may also offer additional or separate support programs which are worth looking into.

Whilst abroad you are also at no academic risk, as a year abroad is equal to 120 additional pass/fail credits on top of your undergraduate degree. If applicable, you will have more flexibility with the modules you study and you could even include a work placement at a foreign company as a part of the year.

Where?

Kingston provides over 100 different study destinations worldwide with their partnered universities, and you can apply to any as long as they are approved for your subject area or you have personally organised an arrangement with another foreign university. A full list can be found through the pages on the link in the next section.

Where can I find out more?

Conclusion

Overall, I believe the study abroad program is a win-win situation which is very accessible to those interested, allowing you to travel to and study in a foreign country (which usually costs less than living in London) whilst cutting your tuition fee and making you eligible for grants. I’m personally considering studying a year in Hiroshima, Japan, and am looking forward to seeing what comes next!
