My mum is Irish, and my dad is English, so I got half and half, and I spend a bunch of time in each country, and hold both Irish and British passports. I mainly grew up in the UK though.

I feel WAY more comfortable in the UK than I do in Ireland, but that could be because I have an English accent, and my extended family all live in Omagh, which isn't the most pro-English of cities. I have to fake an Irish accent there to avoid being abused in the street. Seriously.

Long story short - unless you're the wrong type of person in the wrong place, then it's down to the individual people you meet.
There are bad people in every country. My family come from Ireland and whenever I go visit them they are very welcoming so I cannot say anything bad about them. However my cousin went to stay in Dublin for a while through her job and found people not so friendly.. it just depends on the individuals.
