Government Wants to Regulate Internet Porn

TLDR: The government has plans to make it so that you have to ring up your ISP to opt into internet porn sites, in a bid to stop children accessing pornography.
IMO, a terrible idea, not only is it not going to work, the government shouldn't be interfering with the internet. It also a huge double-standard - the music industry have been crying out for them to do something about illegal downloads for YEARS and they've done sod all!

Lots of problems:
a: How will the list be kept updated - How many porn sites are created each day?
b: Anyone wanting to get around this will just use a non UK proxy, VPN or other encrypted traffic method
c: How will blacklisted non porn sites get removed from list
d: The requirement for staff to keep a and c current will cost huge amounts
e: An intelligent child could just ring the ISP themselves and get the block removed

Surely a lot of people torrent their porn or have other ways of getting around this restriction anyway?
I have mixed feelings... If it prevents young children accidentally accessing stuff, I think it's a good thing.
Have a funny feeling it won't work. Porn is meant to be for over 18s according to the law but I don't think that one gets followed a lot

lol imagine if you protest and you meet your dad there, and then round the corner comes your mum.
I dont fancy having my name on a database that says I like pornz, especially as its bound to end up being not that secure.
This is such a bad idea, seeing as the majority of people who want to access porn are 'children'
Leave us and our porn alone government this is ridiculous if anything it should be the parents resposibility.

It's actually about 10%
But it should be the parents responsibility, not the governments. And if parents can't control what their children look at on the internet (which is very easy, a simple filter would do, though there is a problem if their child goes round other peoples houses ect) then there may be bigger problems than just porn.

It's the parent's problem if they can't regulate their children's internet. You've got so many parental controls available, can't they make an effort? Censorship that can easily be bypassed anyway won't solve anything.
Point taken. But they're not going to all the trouble of getting ISPs to block access to Warez sites with a similar method to that proposed for the porn sites. It would save the industry some money but they're not so why do it with porn?

I don't see what the fuss is about really.
Orange operate a similar feature if using their mobile internet. You ring them up, take off the block and away you go as if nothing was ever in place to stop you.
